Vietnam has underscored its pivotal role in enhancing cooperation between ASEAN and Russia, following the ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit, which celebrated 35 years of dialogue relations. According to Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung, Vietnam played a crucial part in the summit’s success by promoting ASEAN’s central role and supporting initiatives to deepen the strategic partnership with Russia.
The Vietnamese delegation, led by Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, focused on dialogue and cooperation, advocating for peaceful dispute resolution and adherence to international law. In their efforts, Vietnam proposed expanding collaboration in critical sectors such as energy, trade, transport connectivity, agriculture, and digital transformation, highlighting key areas for future partnership growth.
During the summit, new frameworks were adopted to bolster ASEAN–Russia cooperation through 2030, with energy identified as a significant pillar of this partnership. Vietnam announced its plans to host the ASEAN–Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027, demonstrating its commitment to nurturing future regional cooperation and strengthening ties between ASEAN countries and Russia.
On the sidelines, Prime Minister Hưng engaged in discussions with Vladimir Putin, where both leaders reiterated their dedication to deepening the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Their talks concentrated on expanding cooperation in fields such as energy, trade, infrastructure, science and technology, education, and transport, reflecting a mutual interest in broadening bilateral relations.
Vietnam believes that the summit’s outcomes will fortify ASEAN–Russia relations, contribute to regional stability, and open new avenues for economic growth and collaboration across Eurasia. These developments are seen as crucial steps towards enhancing connectivity and fostering a more integrated and prosperous region.
