During a recent visit to Silicon Valley, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung emphasized the nation’s prowess in technology, manufacturing, and innovation as he engaged with prominent US venture capital firms. Highlighting South Korea’s advanced digital infrastructure and a skilled workforce, Lee called for increased collaboration to foster the next generation of global technology enterprises. He pointed to the country’s swift execution capabilities as a key factor making it an appealing destination for investment.
Lee assured that the South Korean government is committed to facilitating this cooperation through various measures. These include visa reforms aimed at attracting foreign experts, enhanced collaboration between businesses and research institutions, and a boost in funding for startups. His address underscored a strategic effort to position South Korea as a global hub for technological advancement.
A significant development during the visit was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between South Korea’s National Pension Service and six leading US venture capital firms. This agreement aims to enhance investment ties and fortify the relationship with South Korea’s burgeoning startup ecosystem, marking a pivotal step in strengthening cross-border economic partnerships.
In addition to meeting with venture capital leaders, President Lee also engaged with overseas Koreans and technology executives, including representatives from major companies such as Samsung, SK Group, Hyundai, Nvidia, OpenAI, Broadcom, and Anthropic. These discussions further highlighted the mutual interests between the US and South Korean tech sectors.
Following his engagements in the United States, President Lee continued his international tour with a departure for Brazil.
