LG Innotek has joined forces with Japan’s TDK to advance the development of cutting-edge vision and tactile sensing modules, poised to enhance robotics and physical AI applications. This strategic partnership leverages the strengths of LG Innotek’s expertise in optical and precision engineering alongside TDK’s innovative sensor technologies, aiming to push the boundaries of robotic capabilities.
One of the key milestones set by this collaboration is the introduction of a next-generation vision sensing module by 2027. This module will incorporate an inertial sensor, facilitating a comprehensive integration of visual, motion, direction, and sound data. Such integration is expected to significantly improve a robot’s ability to perceive and interact with its environment, while also minimizing the image distortion traditionally caused by movement.
In parallel, the two companies are working on a tactile sensing module that mimics the sensitivity of human skin. This module is designed to enable robots to sense touch and pressure through various parts of their anatomy, including hands, arms, and bodies. The tactile sensing module is also slated for release in 2027, aligning with the vision module’s timeline.
Through this collaboration, LG Innotek aims to bolster its footprint in the burgeoning robotics market. By expanding its portfolio to include a diverse array of AI sensing technologies such as cameras, lidar, radar, and tactile sensors, the company is positioning itself as a leader in the field of robotic innovation.
