South Korea has introduced the Digital Nomad Visa (F-1-D), designed to facilitate foreign remote workers’ residency in the country while they continue employment for companies abroad. This new visa is a successor to a previous pilot program, featuring more lenient eligibility criteria to draw in a broader range of international professionals.
Key changes in the revised visa rules include a reduced income threshold for specific applicants, particularly targeting younger individuals and those intending to reside outside the Greater Seoul area or in regions experiencing population decline. Furthermore, the duration of stay permitted under this visa has been increased, allowing holders a maximum of three years, up from the former two-year limit.
The South Korean government has outlined this initiative as part of a broader strategy to attract global talent. By easing the entry and residence conditions, the country aims to encourage long-term settlement among highly skilled remote workers and enhance its status as a desirable location for international professionals.
