Türkiye has once again expressed its readiness to facilitate new peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, as stated by Yuri Ushakov, a foreign policy adviser to the Kremlin. During a speech in Kazan, Ushakov highlighted that Turkish authorities have confirmed their willingness to provide a venue for negotiations aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This announcement came after discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
Ushakov noted that recent drone attacks by Ukraine on Russian territory have complicated the likelihood of a direct meeting between President Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Despite these setbacks, Türkiye remains committed to its diplomatic role, having previously hosted negotiations in Istanbul. Although those talks did not lead to a final agreement, they were considered one of the most substantial diplomatic initiatives undertaken to foster dialogue between the conflicting parties.
Maintaining open lines of communication with both Moscow and Kyiv since the war’s onset, Türkiye has pursued a balanced diplomatic strategy. Turkish officials continue to focus on de-escalation and the pursuit of a peaceful resolution through ongoing diplomatic efforts. Recent high-level meetings have concentrated on identifying avenues to end the conflict and ease regional tensions.
Ushakov also mentioned that Russia is awaiting further developments from the United States following discussions at the G7 summit. He confirmed that senior American representatives are expected to visit Russia soon, indicating a continued international interest in resolving the conflict.
As the war continues to have wide-ranging implications for global politics and security, Türkiye emerges as a key mediator advocating for renewed peace negotiations and a diplomatic solution to the crisis.
