South Korea’s national women’s soccer team has achieved a significant milestone by climbing to 17th place in the latest FIFA women’s world rankings. This marks the team’s highest position in over three years, following their impressive performance at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games where they secured a bronze medal.
The team advanced two spots from their previous rank, returning to 17th for the first time since June 2023. In the Asian region, South Korea stands as the fourth-ranked team, trailing Japan, North Korea, and Australia, which are placed fifth, 12th, and 15th respectively. Meanwhile, China has fallen to 18th place.
South Korea clinched the bronze medal after a challenging series of matches, including a 2-0 loss to the host country, Japan, in the semifinals, followed by a narrow 1-0 victory over China in the third-place playoff. This achievement marks South Korea’s first Asian Games bronze in eight years and their first victory over China in more than a decade.
Globally, Spain continues to hold the top spot in the FIFA rankings, with the United States, Germany, England, and Japan rounding out the top five. The final FIFA women’s world rankings for the year are set to be released on December 7.
